Practicing in My Backyard: there's an archer in all of us!

It is quite remarkable that an arrow can collide into another arrow and run down the shaft. If telescoped arrow is in the bullseye it is commonly called a "Robin Hood". If you get a witness and send in a form the NFAA will document your Robin Hood.

I took a picture and then brought the arrow to my shop to pull it apart and see if I could salvage the shot out arrow. This time I wasn't so lucky and the Gold Tip shaft was not salvageable for my draw length. Oh well, I am in the process of ordering another dozen.

Ashes to ashes

Dust to dust. We hunted a burn area this year, and it wasn't just any burn. The fire here got so hot it burned the seeds and it's taken this forest some time to get going. Which makes for more browse and open space. Big mule deer graced this area at one time, but we saw more black bear on our daily jaunts.

Both my buddy and I missed a bear, I shot high and he shot low. Second prize may have been a first after reflecting, we both got really close and personal to some black bears and we all lived for another glorious day!

To any camo geeks out there, please note the digital camo "optifade" on the backpack and the hat.

High country Sierra Nevada: mountain quail

Hunting in the high country of the Sierra Nevada is crisp, invigorating, and challenging. Animals abound and hunting with a longbow gives countless tales to tell.

Mountain quail make for small game and the challenge to gather and hunt.

new website

It looks like my new website is finally shaping up.  I am excited about getting it up and running, with plenty of information on archery, backpacking, bowman, and teeth.

September Always Means Elk

Just got off the phone with my good buddy Lon Sharp.  We were setting up some plans to hunt elk in Idaho this year.  I'm excited!
I've been in Sitka Gear for the past few seasons and I've got to say the stuff is great.  It fits well which is important for me since the way I shoot makes string clearance a big deal in regards to good shot execution.  The new buzz is Sitka looks to be ready to offer a digital camo in its line.  You can read more about it at sitkaprostaff.com .  Look up optifade.

MBB vol.3 released!

Life's full of peak experiences, they aren't always warm and cozy feelings but they move us forward into new realms and new realizations.

Masters of the Barebow volume 3 was just released, it is the best volume so far. It also begs for more instructional dvds on shooting. "Shoot Better in 60 Days"

That elk, that day, it was a magical day. It was like opening up a Disney picture book, well almost...
